Climate Change Activity Guide

Climate Change Guide Climate Change: A Wisconsin Activity Guide is a resource for Wisconsin’s teachers to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to become informed and active participants in society’s climate change discussions. It touches on both the scientific aspects of climate change and social issues.

The 12 activities in this guide are designed primarily for students in grades 7 to 12. The guide contains activities applicable to a variety of subjects including sciences, math, language arts, social studies, and art. Each activity is designed to stand alone as an individual lesson, however, the more activities students complete, the better they will understand the many aspects of climate change.

Introduction & Background – General Resources
This section provides you with background information and suggested Web sites for finding fundamental information about climate change.


1. What is Climate?
This section defines and discusses climate and how scientists estimate climatic conditions from many years ago. These links will help you discuss this topic at greater depth.


2. Causes of Climate Change
This section examines the pollutants that cause climate change, the sources of these pollutants, and ways to reduce their impact.


3. Ecosystem Impacts of Climate Change in Wisconsin
This section looks at methods of phenological ecosystem observation, why climate change matters in Wisconsin, and how it might change the Earth.


4. Social and Cultural Perspectives of Climate Change
This section explores various perspectives on climate change and the potential impacts on people and society.


5. What Can I Do?
This section gives students hands-on opportunities to get inspired, take action, and make a difference.
